Picture and Video Policy

Ridgefield Library Photo / Video Policy

We love taking pictures / videos of our library and events!

Authorized Library staff may take pictures and video recordings in public areas of the Library and at Library‐related
programs and events. These materials may be reproduced, published, displayed, or distributed in print or digital
formats, including the Library’s website, social media platforms, and other communication channels.
By entering the Library or participating in Library programs and events, individuals grant the Library the full rights to
use such images and recordings for publicity, documentation, and other Library‐related purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, reproducing, displaying, posting or distributing the images or recordings in printed materials, online
publications, the Library’s website, social media platforms, reports, and press releases. Individuals who do not wish to be photographed, or who do not wish a minor in their care to be photographed, during these activities must inform the Library staff member taking them.

No patron, visitor, or participant will be identified by name without prior written consent.

To support the Library’s mission and uphold patron privacy, the following rules govern photography and video
recording within Library spaces:
● Patron and staff activities must be able to continue without interruption during any photography or filming.
● Patrons and visitors may take casual pictures in public areas provided such activity does not interfere with
Library operations or disrupt other users.
● Individuals capturing images or video in public areas are responsible for obtaining permission from all persons
they photograph or film.
● Flash photography and equipment that obstructs aisles, walkways, or Library use is prohibited.
● Unauthorized public display of pictures, videos, or audio recordings depicting patrons, staff, programs, or
copyrighted artwork is prohibited.
● Photographing or filming minors (individuals under 18 years of age) is prohibited without the consent of a
parent or legal guardian. The Library does not obtain release forms on behalf of patrons.
● Photography, videography, or audio recording in restrooms, staff‐only areas, or other non‐public spaces is
prohibited unless expressly authorized by the Director upon review and approval from the Library Board of
Trustees.
● Commercial photography or videography is not permitted without prior written approval from the Library
Trustees, Library Director, or their designee. Requests must be submitted in advance.
● Individuals taking pictures or videos for academic or school research purposes should submit a written request
in advance to minimize disruption to Library operations and the workflow.
● The Library’s name, logo, or visual identity may not be used to imply endorsement, sponsorship, partnership,
or affiliation without prior written authorization.

The Library reserves the right to restrict, limit, or terminate any photography or filming that disrupts operations, violates Library policies, compromises safety or privacy, or violates any applicable law. If staff determine that photography or filming is disruptive, individuals may be directed to relocate or reserve a meeting room.

Please be advised that some instructors or other non‐library individuals take pictures or videos during classes or
events for use on their personal, business, or community social media accounts. These images may or may not be
shared with the Library through tagging, linking, or other means, and may or may not be reposted/shared on Library
platforms. The Library is not responsible or liable for any images captured by instructors or individuals, nor for any use or distribution of such images outside of Library‐controlled channels. The Library does not endorse or promote
instructors, their products, services, or any external use of images they create.
